About the Institute
Pharmaceutical Research and Development Institute was established in 2014 and it comprises five units with a number of analytical laboratories equipped with sophisticated high tech instruments that are aimed to provide analytical services, shown on the opposite list of analytical services. Internationally approved official methods of qualitative and quantitative are adopted. The vision is to upgrade the scientific and technological base of chemical and pharmaceutical production and addressing research issues of national importance.

UMST and the Control of Onchocerciasis (River Blindness) in the Sudan
The University of Medical Sciences & Technology has contributed to the health promotion of Sudanese people, not only by first class research in neglected tropical diseases but also in implementation of control of these diseases in Sudan and especially in South Sudan before separating from the Sudan.

Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Community Mental Health
To coincide with the World Mental Health Day, the Sudan Education & Development Institute (SEDI) at the University of Medical Sciences and Technology organized on October 10th, 2020 at the Global Conference Center, a symposium to discuss the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Community Mental Health. The main speakers of the events were Dr. Mohamed Ali Siddig, HMC, Qatar, Prof. Fath Al Alim Mohamed Abdelrahim, UMST and Dr. Mohamed El Hassan Khalid also of UMST. The four paradigms of the Symposium were: Global Perspectives, Global Impact, Clinical Presentations and the Impact on Mental Health Services.
The symposium which proved highly relevant and well attended captivated the audience which was composed of UMST top Management, Deans of Faculties, lecturers and students, both graduate and undergraduate, and was also attended by distinguished guests from outside the University.
Despite the scientific specialized nature of the issues raised, the speakers managed to maintain the attention of the audience, who were obviously impressed by the scope and quality of the presentations

Dr. Bagadi is an expert in Child Mental Health in Manchester, they have already established a program in child mental health in Manchester, the main aim was to introduce this specialty in Sudan.
At the level of health center and school health… Prof Hassan suggested that it is better to start it as small dose at undergraduate level and as subspecialty in pediatrics…
Dr. Adam will review the curriculum of the Family Medicine and will give his recommendations latter.

The Sudan Education and Development institute (SEDI) Held a course in Women’s Health Medical Disorders in pregnancy & infertility – in the Global Conference Center (GCC) from 27th- 29th November 2018- it was attended by really 100 doctors from( M.O.H) mainly family medicine doctors from primary health care and final medical students from the university (UMST)
Two eminent guest speakers from Corniche Hospital (UAE) namely, doctor Saleema Wani (FRCOQ) head dept of OBST& GYN, and Dr. Bashir Taha Salih (Head dept of Obstetric medicine) from UMST Dr. Helmi Noor (Head of OBST, Dr. Mohamed Abdulrahem, Cons. OBST& GYN, Dr. Ahmed Dirar, consultant Endocrinologist, Dr. Salma Alnouri and Fateh Al.Alim , prof of psychiatry .
They discussed various Topics related to medical problems & pregnancy including infertility & mevpemunt , prescribing in pregnancy
Hypertension in pregnancy, Epilepsy in pregnancy , Eclampsia and how to manage as well as Cardio diseases with pregnancy and mental Health.
The third day was mainly on hematological problems & anemia in pregnancy, Headache, diabetes and obesity in pregnancy.

The workshop is mainly to the Teaching staff of university, to show them the different methods of assessment and student evaluation. Different Topics were discussed including role of the teacher, Criteria of a good test, small group and large group teaching, how to construct an MCQ (one-best answer).
Also how to conduct Objective Structured Clinical Examination and practical examination- Other exams e. g Structured Short Essay questions (SSEQ) and Outlines of Blue Print were also discussed and group discussion.
On Thursday the 5th of July and Saturday the 7th of the same month a workshop under the title Safeguarding and Neuro Developmental Pediatrics was conducted by Dr. Zinab Abdelrahman at SEDI. Dr Abdelrahman, Consultant Community Pediatrician, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK, took her audience through a process that focused on children development and how they will interact with the world throughout life. The workshop also paid full attention to the issue of deficit disorder and how the hyperactive child can be managed using psychotherapy and stimulant medications.
Dr. Abdelrahman also discussed the conditions of the autistic children and how to deal with them in society in order to help them to improve speech and eye contact. The role of health personnel was discussed as well as within multi disciplinary approach, training and counseling for the purpose of improving social relationships. The workshop was concluded by interactive discussion and recommendations.
On Sunday the 24th of June 2018 a workshop was conducted by the SEDI (Sudan Education and Development Institute) in collaboration with The Ministry of Higher Education, represented by the General Admissions Administration and the Post- graduate Department.
The workshop that took place at the Lecture Theatre (Room 3) SEDI, the Orange Building was attended by all Faculty Registrars, the officer of the Admissions Office and the Post- graduate College Registrar.
The admissions officers of the MOHE (Undergraduate & Postgraduate) delivered talks about the regulations and procedures of admissions to Universities. They stressed the important steps and procedures to avoid mistakes to ensure smooth bridging from Diplomas to Degrees, and successful transfer between universities.
