UMST Sudanese Heritage and Culture Week


UMST’s Student’s Union-Creativity 2014-2015 has organised a week on campus celebrating the best parts of Sudan’s heritage and cultural practices.

cultThe festivities began on Saturday 16 May, 2015, with the event being launched in a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mr. Jamal Al Wali, UMST’s President Professor Hassan Mohammed Ahmed, the University’s Vice President Dr Hafiz Homeida and the Dean of Student Affairs Dr Ahmed Babiker Mohamed Zein.

Activities organized for the week include traditional dancing, performances of national songs, a DJ set, a live music concert and a recreation of a traditional Sudanese wedding, known as a ‘girtik’.cult1

A lecture will also be given by Dr Esam Ahmed Al Bashir and another on the effects of smoking by the Khartoum State Ministry of Health.

Stalls have been set-up up along the run way leading up to the cafeteria, displaying various historical and traditional items – some of which are for sale.

The activities run on on campus until Thursday 21 May, 2015.
