1- Electronic Submission and Required Documents:
• The original Sudan School Certificate, and the Arabic Certificate or the Foreign Certificate to be authenticated by the country of origin coupled with the authentication of the Sudanese Embassy in the country of Origin and of the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There is also a need to secure the Equivalency certification at the General Administration of Examinations of the Federal Ministry of Education in Khartoum. For foreign certificates: IGCSE, for example, the seven subjects eligible for admission should have been obtained in a single certificate and in one year. The 11th level is required for students from within Sudan and candidates from outside Sudan (it is a prerequisite for the student to be on the advanced AS / Level) and the certificate should be authenticated by the British Council and the State Department.
• 3 Photos of passport size and a copy of the Birth Certificate.
• The Sudanese students should provide: 1- A photocopy of the National Number. 2- Certificate of Completing the National Military Service. International students should provide a photocopy of passport.
• Hepatitis B Vaccination Certificate.
• A computerized statement from the Department of Admission of Higher Education to students who are candidates for general admission.
• Signing the Acceptance Regulations.
2- After reviewing the certificates and ensuring that the admission requirements are met, the Admissions Office will write to the Registrar and the Financial Administration to register the student and to receive the prescribed tuition fees mentioned above.
3- The Registrars of the Faculties will oversee the medical examination and the interviews arrangements.
4- Sudanese students holding foreign certificates must sit for the Arabic language and religious education examinations: Islamic / Christian, which are prepared by the Department of Admission of Higher Education, and the results will be advanced to the students after enrolling in universities. According to the Higher Education Admission Administration, the results of those examinations are required for the authentication of university degrees upon graduation.
On Thursday the 5th of July, at the gardens of the Global Conference Center, the University organized a dinner party to acknowledge the efforts of the External Examiners and to celebrate the achievement the of Medicine and Dentistry graduates. The ceremony was attended by Professor Mamoun Homeida, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, University professors, guests, graduate students and their families.
Dr. Hafez Homeida, Vice President of the University, welcomed the External Examiners and the guests of the ceremony. He hailed the achievement of the students and emphasized the value and significance the University attach to inviting external examiners from reputed international universities to evaluate the taken by the graduate students and their curricula as well. The participation of the External Examiners, he maintained, is an ongoing testimony to the impressive progress achieved by the university. He highlighted the fact that the External Examiners were impressed by the high levels of the university graduates which are comparable with the British, Irish and other international universities.
On the other hand, Dr. Jonathan Bennett, professor at the University Hospital of Leicester, spoke on behalf of the External Examiners thanking the University for inviting him and his colleagues to evaluate the performance of the graduates’ exams for this year. He paid tribute to the quality of students and graduates and the curricula of the university emphasizing that they are compare favorably with the levels of international universities. He was highly appreciative of the warm welcome and the genuine hospitality extended to them by everybody at the university. He also praised the cultural programs that allowed them to visit prominent landmarks in Khartoum.
Representatives of the graduate students also spoke at the ceremony, expressing their pride and joy for their success and graduation. They expressed their gratitude to their professors and to the External Examiners. Everyone was totally immersed in a deservedly joyous time. During the course of the event, awards were presented by the professors, with the participation of the External Examiners, to the outstanding students. Special awards and certificates of appreciation were also presented to the student who distinguished themselves in a number of different disciplines.
We at UMST, collectively and individually, extend our warmest welcoming to the External Examiners who arrived to participate in the processes of the final Graduation Examinations of Batch 20 at the Faculty of Medicine and Batch 18 at the Faculty of Dentistry.
In their sustained efforts to keep abreast with technological developments and academic issues and concerns, Abeer Mohammed Kheir Osman, Web Administrator /Head of Computer Labs Unit, UMST and Eng.Ahmed Abobaker, Web Administrator at the Computer Center, attended on Tuesday the 26th of June at the Conference Hall of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, a Lecture on Global University Rankings and the Opportunities for Sudanese Universities.
The lecture was presented by Dr. Nimir Elbashir, Professor of Chemical Engineering & Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University and Director of Gas & Fuels Research Center in Qatar. In his lecture Professor Elbashir lecture demonstrated that the quality in university education is measured by the academic institution commitment to excellence in teaching, knowledge transfer, research, and global outlook. He emphasized that he teaching excellence depends primarily on the ability of the universities to facilitate ideal learning environment and to develop effective tools to measure their professors’ role in promoting excellent teaching methods and styles.
Professor Elbashir promised to present two further presentations that will highlight the path to achieving excellence in teaching research and service in academic institutions that will hopefully result in enhancing the ranking of the Sudanese universities.
Quality in university education is measured by the academic institution commitment to excellence in teaching, knowledge transfer, research, and global outlook. The teaching excellence depends primarily on the ability of the university to facilitate ideal learning environment and to develop effective tools to measure their professors’ role in promoting excellent teaching methods/styles, provide the needed mentorship for their students, and measure their preparedness and performance in real life jobs. On the other hand, research excellence is measured by the reputation of the academic institution regarding scientific papers, patents, research income in dollars as well as the number of graduate students (Ph.D. and master) and their impact. Creating globally recognized university require building robust research structure and developing strategy of research dissemination (journal papers and books publications, participation in global conferences, etc.) This presentation will highlight the experience of regional universities in this path. A series of two presentations will highlight the path to achieving excellence in teaching research and service in academic institutions that will result in enhancing the ranking of the Sudanese universities.
Dr. Nimir O. Elbashir
Professor of Chemical Engineering & Petroleum Engineering
Director of Texas A&M University Gas & Fuels Research Center, the Largest University Research Energy Research Center
Dr. Elbashir is a Professor of Chemical Engineering & Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar and he is the Director of Texas A&M’s Gas and Fuels Research Center; a major research center that involves 31 faculty members from both the College Station and Qatar campuses. Dr. Elbashir is also the Director of the ORYX GTL Gas-to-Liquid Technology Excellence Program. He has extensive research and teaching experience from four different countries around the world. The focus of his research activities is the design of advanced reactors, catalysts and conversion processes for natural gas, coal and CO2 to ultra-clean fuels and value added chemicals. He has established several unique global research collaboration models between academia and industry with research funds exceeding $13m dollars. He holds several US and European patents and a large number of scientific publications in form of books, peer reviewed journals, conference papers, technical industry reports as well as invited and conference presentations. He is the recipient of several prestigious awards including but not limited to: 2017th Texas A&M University Faculty Excellence Award; 2016th Texas TEES Genesis Engineering Research Award; 2012th Qatar Foundation Best Energy & Environment Research Team; 2015th Texas A&M Qatar Dean Leadership Award; 2016th ORYX GTL Recognition Excellence Program: 2013th Shell Recognition of Excellence in GTL Aviation Fuels; 2007th BASF Corp. Excellence Research in Environmental Catalysis, the Gordon Research Conferences.

Ms Sahar Gamal Head of the Department of Hematology, Faculty of Medical Laboratory Sciences represented the University of medical sciences and technology at the 3rd International Conference of Society of Pathological Biochemistry and Hematology held on the 10th of April 2018 held at Alexandria University, Egypt.
Ms Gamal has presented an oral presentation at the Conference, and her research paper was published in the Journal of Bio science and Applied Research (JBAAR,(volume 4,2018).
On Sunday the 24th of June 2018 a workshop was conducted by the SEDI (Sudan Education and Development Institute) in collaboration with The Ministry of Higher Education, represented by the General Admissions Administration and the Post- graduate Department.
The workshop that took place at the Lecture Theatre (Room 3) SEDI, the Orange Building was attended by all Faculty Registrars, the officer of the Admissions Office and the Post- graduate College Registrar.
The admissions officers of the MOHE (Undergraduate & Postgraduate) delivered talks about the regulations and procedures of admissions to Universities. They stressed the important steps and procedures to avoid mistakes to ensure smooth bridging from Diplomas to Degrees, and successful transfer between universities.
The Website and Information Unit at the university participated in a workshop organized the Association of Sudanese Universities to evaluate upgrade the websites at the Sudanese universities. The workshop was held in the Meetings Hall in the Secretariat of Scientific Affairs at Khartoum University. A good number web masters, managers and supervisors participated in the workshop.
UMST was represented in the occasion by Eng. Abeer Mohamed, Website Supervisor and Eng. Ahmed Abobker , Web Administrator. They both attended the two sessions held on two successive Sundays; the 27th of May and the 3rd of June.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Secretary-General of ASU, welcomed the participants and thanked them for their keenness on attending and participating. He commended the workshop and highlighted its importance in impacting the classification of Sudanese universities worldwide.
The workshop came out with a number of recommendations geared towards improving the quality of the sites of the Sudanese universities. Amongst the recommendations is the need to place the sites under the direct supervision of the Presidents assisted technically with dedicated and capable administration. There were calls for organizing courses on site security under the supervision of the Association of Sudanese Universities, organizing regular training courses for websites supervisors overseen by ASU in cooperation with the universities. It has also been recommended that the site should contain more than one language with emphasis on Arabic and English, and that efforts should be made to ensure the availability of electronic services to all interested individuals.
