Rehab Al-Fikr” Organized a Symposium on Provision of Medicines

A symposium on “How the national pharmaceutical industry will contribute to the Provision of Medicines” was organized by the Forum of “Rehab Al-Fikr” on Saturday the 10th of November at the Global Conference Center (GCC).
The symposium was addressed by HE Dr Suad Yousef Al Karib, State Minister of the Federal Ministry of Health, Professor Mamoun Homeida, Minister of Health of the State of Khartoum, Dr Ahmad Al-Badawi, Chairman of the Chamber of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Dr Salah Kambal, Head of Pharmaceutical Drugs Importers, Dr Salah Ibrahim, President of the General Union of Pharmacists and others.

The symposium thoroughly reviewed issues related to the contribution of the national pharmaceutical industry to the provision of medicines. The speakers also discussed the problem of medicine, in terms of import and manufacturing, and raised issues and proposed solutions to the problems related to provisions of medicines. The symposium was highly enriched by open debate and by intelligent comments.

It is worth mentioning that a Forum of Rehab Al-Fikr was established to organize a number of symposia, meetings and seminars, etc within the framework of defined objectives and goals aimed at highlighting the national outreach of the University, its involvement and interaction with the various strata of the Sudanese society, and to direct and suide the positive engagement of UMST students community. The University aspires, through the “Rehab Al-Fikr” Forum, to manifest its commitment to a well informed Responsibility strategies, policies and practices. The ultimate goal of the Forum is to establish sound measures to further extend the university outreach through intellectual, cultural and scientific activities offered through the Forum of Rehab Al-Fikr.

Since its inception the Forum has managed to organize a number of events that were heavily attended and succeeded in addressing current issues that are of huge relevance to the Sudanese public.

Dr. Ikram Mohammed Eltayeb and another Sound Publication


Dr.Ikram Mohammed Eltayeb Elsiddig, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy published paper in the International Journal of Current Research. The paper, which is entitled “Phytochemical study and anti-hyperglycemic effects of allium sativum bulbs growing in Sudan” is a joint effort with Yacouba Amina Djamila and 2Amna El Hassan Hama of the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Medical Sciences and Technology and of the Department of Pharmacology, and Amna El Hassan Hamad Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research Institute, Khartoum.

Curriculum Development of Family & Community Medicine

Prof Hassan Balla was invited to attend than important workshop. Prof Ahmed Gasim , director of post- graduate Studies gave an outlines of family medicine, followed by discussion, then Prof Asim Daffalla reviewed the curriculum of community medicine. There was intensive discussion , the workshop was attended by Prof Mamoun & consultants of family& community medicine finally Prof Hassan Balla, Prof of family& community medicine gave his remarks and the report was sent to the secretary of academic affairs.

UMST Public and Tropical Health Programmes Secure another Resounding Success


The Public and Tropical Health Programmes at the University of Medical Sciences and Technology celebrated another success, to add to ongoing advancements in science, medicine and education.
On Saturday the 5th batch of from the MSc in Family Medicine has graduated with flying colors to constitute a significant landmark in the highly needed specialization, not only for UMST, but for the Sudan at large.
Forty one medical doctors graduated to add to the experts in health service and to add volume and value to the personnel working in the field.
Within this specific context, External Examiners of high caliber fully participated in conducting the exams and overseeing the process. Dr Badria Abdelraheem Elfaki and Dr Yousif Elgizoli were invited from Prince Sultan Military Medical City in Ryiad KSA. And they were joined by Professor Ahmed Gasim Elzubair.
All three examiners were highly impressed with the sound knowledge of the doctors, and they commended their excellent clinical skills. They all agreed that the graduated doctors are comparable, and in some areas, exceeded doctors examined by them at different parts of the Arab World, and they confirm that they would confidently recommend them as SAFE DOCTORS.
It is worth noting that the Programmes are run under the capable management and efficient supervision of Dr Hanan Tahir.

University Open Day for HIV / AIDS Awareness

On 22 October from 10:00 to 17:00 an open day on HIV/AIDS awareness was held at the University in cooperation with the Deanship of Student Affairs and the Red Crescent Society of Khartoum State
The day was composed of two parts. The first part was mainly an education program; while the second part was composed of an exhibition which was geared towards raising awareness. The second part was concerned with focusing attention on the national AIDS guidelines, including group discussion group, lecture, experience of a PLHIV, self-counseling, self-counseling, voluntary screening, counseling and diagnosis clinic for sexually transmitted diseases, a drama on HIV and songs.

IEEE at the Global Conference Center


On Saturday the 6th the IEEE, Global Non-profit Association organized a whole day event at the Global Conference Center. The event was, which officially sponsored by the Faculty of Computer Science& Information Technology of UMST, boasted a number of expert speakers paramount amongst them Professor Sharif Babikir, President of the IEEE Association in Sudan. The well attended event has addressed issues pertinent to the development of relevant technology and practices. It also touched on the standards and measures required for implementing effective and sustainable services that translate IEEE’s slogan of ‘Leveraging Technology for a better Tomorrow’ into a reality that will contribute towards the welfare of all Sudanese communities.

 

Academic Cooperation between UMST & the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore


UMST signed on Saturday the 29th of September a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore – Italy – to launch the Global MBA Impact in Entrepreneurship with full awareness of its huge impact on the industrial landscape in Sudan. The project was launched with the endorsement of the Italian Embassy in Sudan and the support of the Italian Agency of Cooperation and Development. The occasion, which was held at the Global Conference Center (GCC), was organized under the patronage of Dr Mousa Mohammed Karama, Minister of Industry and Trade.

Dr Abu Al-Bashir, Minister of State at the Ministry of Industry and Trade attended the occasion on behalf of Dr Mousa Karama, and subsequently addressed the meeting. The ceremony was also attended by Professor Hassan Mohammed Ahmed, President of the University, Fabrizio Lobasso, Italian Ambassador in Khartoum, Vincenzo Racalbotto President of the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development, and Dr. Mohammed Faraj, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration. They invariably provided invaluable information and intelligent insights in their well received deliveries at the meetinging.

They hailed the joint Global MBA program as an opportunity to create a network of cooperation between the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and UMST. In addition to the reputable academic establishments, the project is also supported by the efforts of the industrial communities in Italy and Sudan. And it has been recognized by all participants as the program with its entrepreneurship leaning and orientation will ultimately succeed in creating jobs in both Italy and Sudan.

It is worth mentioning that this initiative is the first and only partnership between the Italian Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and a Sudanese university. Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore by committing efforts and resources to this joint academic venture with the University of Medical Sciences and Technology is fully acknowledging the abilities and capabilities of UMST that set it apart from other Sudanese centers of learning.

 

 

SEDI | Workshop on Teaching and Learning Different Methods

The workshop is mainly to the Teaching staff of university, to show them the different methods of assessment and student evaluation. Different Topics were discussed including role of the teacher, Criteria of a good test, small group and large group teaching, how to construct an MCQ (one-best answer).
Also how to conduct Objective Structured Clinical Examination and practical examination- Other exams e. g Structured Short Essay questions (SSEQ) and Outlines of Blue Print were also discussed and group discussion.

UMST Web Administrator at the Website and Information Unit at the university Eng. Ahmed Abobker was selected within the committee of the development of the Standard Website for Sudanese Universities. The committee was formed by the (ASU) Association of Sudanese Universities.
The committee was formed of top information technology engineers in several universities in Sudan and specialists in the design and development of the website, and its management in terms of performance and appearance and operating systems and servers suitable for these websites.
Keeping pace with the global technological development, and in order to preserve the appearance of Sudanese universities in the outside world. This work is due to the universities’ access to their content, academic performance and various activities to the world, to reach the global performance of the Sudanese universities and in turn to nominate them to enter the international universities classification.
