The UMST Sudan Education and Development Institute (SEDI) announcing a new workshop on Dissertation Supervision and Assessment on first day will be only for lecturers, Wednesday 23/May/2018 The second day will be for students Dissertation Preparation + Writing, Thursday 24/May/2018.

The ultimate goal of research is to develop information that would contribute to scientific knowledge. In order to accomplish this goal, the support and contribution of others is critical. Accordingly, those staff members, who are involved directly or indirectly in developing students’ research proposals or providing supervision to them, should be cognizant of their role in supporting and improving the quality of the graduation theses of their students or subordinates.
The course is an endeavor to be developed in response a need to improve and master the quality of research proposals and research outcome of graduation theses and strengthen the role and contribution of prospective supervisors in the processes of research development and implementation.
The second topic was given by Dr. Noma and it was about how to write a dissertation and proper supervision, as well as presenting sample size. Prof Ahmed Gasim discussed both dissertation supervision and dissertation assessment. He recommended regular discussion and called for arranging a log book or memorandum of understanding between the student and supervisor emphasizing regular meeting and the signing of the two parties after each meeting. The written work will be given to the supervisor before the meeting to revise it. At the end of the workshop there was group discussion with participation from all staff.
The second day, Thursday, was mainly for the students of Family Medicine and undergraduates on how to write dissertation on scientific bases .The main speakers were Prof Ahmed Gasim & Dr Amin Alagib.
