PgDip HIV/AIDS

Programme Structure

The diploma is divided into six modules, 5 technical modules and one Management Training modules. The duration of the modules is as follows:

Module One: Continuum of care. This module is comprised of two parts the first part is lectures, exercises and group work and the second part is one week filed work, where the participants spend one week in the different HIV/AIDS treatment centres in Khartoum where each participant will submit a report on continuum of care and cohort analysis.
Module Two: Behaviour Change & the Socio-cultural Aspect of HIV&AIDS. The module will provide theoretical knowledge on Behaviour Change, barrier analysis, the designing of behaviour change & Behaviour Change Communication. The Theoretical knowledge will be followed by practical exercises, group work & case studies.
Module Three: HIV& AIDS National Program Management & M&E. This module is comprised of two parts the first part is program management and the second part is monitoring and evaluation. The Theoretical knowledge will be followed by practical exercises, group work & case studies. The participants will spend one week in the different HIV/AIDS program sites in Khartoum where each participant will submit a report on one of the program thematic areas identifying decisions related to the M&E, formulate questions that need to be answered in order to make informed decisions and construct a conceptual frameworks capturing the factors that influence the success of the thematic area in reaching its goals and logically explaining how program activities contributed to its objective.
Module Four: Epidemiology, Biostatistics &Research Methodology: This module is comprised of two parts part one is the theoretical knowledge with group work and exercises on applied epidemiology and statistics. The second part is practical training on one of the statistical software, data management and writing of a research proposal.
Module Five: HIV second & third generation surveillance: This Module is comprised of two parts, part one covers the theoretical knowledge on the different components & methods and which of them suit the epidemic state in Sudan. Participants will be trained to design comprehensive surveillance system and usage of results to illustrate trends as well as interpret prevalence trends across multiple sites. The second part is the development of a surveillance protocols. The candidate needs to attend and pass all five modules, pass the exam and submit the required prerequisite for each module.

Teaching Methodology

Different teaching methods will be used according to each module requirements. Generally the methods are as follows:

Lectures/presentations.
Assignments &Exercises
Group discussions,
Case studies,
Field work,
Guided Self learning.

Evaluation:

The performance of the candidates will be evaluated using the following methods:

Individual participation,
Individual assignments & case studies,
Group presentations& case studies.
Modules Pre & Post test results.

The applicant to fulfill the following requirements:

  • First degree in health sciences, social sciences & professional qualifications from any institution approved by UMST,
  • Candidates from other fields with relevant working experiences may also be considered for enrollment in the diploma,
  • All candidates are required to have a good command of English and basic IT skills as a prerequisite for entry into this postgraduate diploma.

Duration of the Diploma:

Full time for the duration of 6 months and the tuition & activities will take place 4 days each week.

Applications for admission to the programme shall be submitted to the Graduate College Admissions Office in the Orange Building on the University campus.

Applicants should bring with them a copy of personal identification, a copy of the university degree validated by the Ministry of Higher Education, two photographs and Certificate of experience (if any).
