Research conducted by Dr Hanan Tahir of the University of Medical Sciences and Technology (UMST) has been published in a Scientific Report in the prominent academic journal, Nature.
The report, titled, ‘The Genetics of East African populations: a Nilo-Saharan component in the African genetic landscape’ explored new insights into the genetic history of East African populations and aimed to use genetic distance to identify recognized signals of adaptive selection in these populations.
Dr Tahir and the University are both referenced in the article, with an acknowledgement of thanks given to Professor Abdalla Elkhawad, Dean of UMST’s Postgraduate Faculty, for help with sample collection.
Nature has been ranked the world’s most cited scientific journal. The prestigious publication has published some of the greatest scientific discoveries over a span of 140 years.
The report is available in the University’s library and the Nature website here: http://www.nature.com/srep/2015/150528/srep09996/full/srep09996.html
